Accupressure/Shiatsu

In acupressure, an ancient Chinese treatment, and shiatsu, its Japanese equivalent, therapists use the fingers, thumbs and palms at specific points on the body to stimulate energy and realign the meridians. Gentle stretching is also used. May be performed over clothing. Benefits: increased energy and circulation, emotional balance, and relief from acute pain of the joints.

Deep Tissue Massage

Therapists work the deeper layers of muscles and fascia with slow, direct pressure in specific problem areas. Benefits: reduces tension, chronic muscle pain, and tightness while increasing circulation.

Pre-natal Massage

A therapeutic bodywork specifically designed to nurture the mother-to-be after her first trimester. Benefits: reduces swelling and back and neck pain, improves muscle tone, stimulates the circulatory and endocrine systems, and provides much-needed emotional support. Doctor’s recommendation requested.

Reflexology

This ancient Asian treatment, based upon the belief that the foot mirrors the body, uses gentle acupressure and massage techniques to specific pressure points on the feet, hands or even ears. Benefits: relieves stress, releases energy.

Sports Massage

A form of bodywork geared toward participants in athletics. It is used to help prevent injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity and maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries. Benefits: loosens the muscles, repairs microtraumas, removes lactic acid buildup, and reduces swelling, cramping and pain.

Swedish Massage

A general whole body massage using oils on the skin with long relaxing strokes, friction and kneading of the superficial layers of the muscles. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. Benefits: Eases mental and physical tension and produces a sense of deep relaxation.

Thai Yoga Massage

Also called Thai Yoga Therapy, is a deeply healing and powerful combination of rhythmic massage, acu-pressure, deep stretching, gentle twisting, energy work and meditation all rolled into one experience. Benefits: stimulates the flow of healing energies within the body, opens the areas which are blocked and brings the body, mind and spirit back into balance and harmony.

Trigger Point

Uses pressure to tender muscle tissue (trigger points) in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. It may also be called myofascial (myo meaning muscle, fascial meaning connective therapy) trigger point therapy. Benefits: particularly effective with arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic pain, headaches, menstrual cramps, sciatia, TMJ, tendinitis, and whiplash.

ENERGY WORK

Reiki

Spiritual energy work which clears the restricted flow of life force or reiki (Japanese), chi (Chinese) or prana (Indian), in the body. The practitioner scans the body, then uses gentle touches to the head, chest, abdomen or back. May be performed over clothing. Benefits: reduces stress and trauma, resulting in clarity, emotional stability and peace.

Craniosacral

This gentle, noninvasive technique balances the craniosacral system by using light touch on the cranial bones and sacrum system. Benefits: boosts the immune system, deep relaxation, soothes headaches, and relieves neck and joint pain.
